Adopt a dog or cat for $25 during the SPCA of Texas Showers of Love event

Throughout the month of April, you can adopt a dog or cat from the Texas Humane Society for a reduced adoption fee of $25.

Do you know the saying that April showers bring May flowers? Well, they also provide a new opportunity to move on and add a new dog or cat to your circle of friends and family, while the SPCA of Texas has lowered their adoption fees during their rains of love event.

For the entire month of April 2022, the adoption fee for adult dogs and cats six months and older is only $25, and they are fully vaccinated and have already been spayed and neutered, which at that point saves those adopters between $200 – $500 in vet bills alone if they take advantage of the offer.

The reduced rate is in effect at both the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas and the Ellis County Animal Care Center in Waxahachie.

“SPCA Texas Ellis County Animal Care Center adopted pets come with everything they need for a great start in life with their new family,” says Maura Davies, vice president of marketing and communications for the SPCA of Texas. . “Not only are they already spayed or neutered, they are also vaccinated and microchipped. This $25 adoption fee covers all of those treatments and more, a great value for a best friend who will provide a lifetime of love and companionship.”

The event comes just as the animal welfare organization sees an annual spring increase in the number of kittens and puppies arriving at its various shelters. April is known as kitten season by animal welfare workers due to the sudden influx of kittens taken in by almost every shelter in the country. So throughout April and well into the summer, the organization will welcome hundreds of new arrivals as people hand over animals they can’t care for and animal cruelty investigations uncover dogs and cats in desperate need of kindness and care. The Showers of Love event is held to help clear the space for reshoots.

All dogs and cats available for adoption through the Texas Humane Society have received a complete medical exam and have been evaluated for all the qualities that help ensure that they will be a happy addition to their adopters’ families.

Adoption fees are typically $150 for puppies and kittens up to six months of age and $75 for adult dogs and cats six months and older.

Even with the regular fee, adopting from the SPCA of Texas offers great savings compared to other ways to acquire a dog or cat because the fee includes spaying or neutering surgery, which costs $200 to $400 in the US. veterinary clinics in Waxahachie. The fee also includes all age-appropriate vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs six months of age and older and an FIV, Fe.LV test for cats six months of age and older along with initial flea prevention. and ticks and heartworm disease.

In addition, all dogs and cats adopted from the Texas Humane Society are microchipped and receive 30 days of PetHealth Insurance provided by PetHealth, Inc., a free 14-day wellness exam with VCA Animal Hospitals, one week of training free upon request from the GoodPup training app, a free rabies tag, and a free leash or temporary cat carrier.

“The Texas Humane Society’s adoptable dogs and cats are ready to shower you with love!” said Kelli Eaves, director of Salvage Initiatives. “By adopting a pet, you not only save the life of the pet you are adopting, but you also save the life of the pet that takes its place in the shelter. There are some absolutely adorable and loving animals in shelters right now. We would love to find all of them homes so we can fill our shelters with more pets in need and continue the cycle of adoptions.”
